Rio Grande City High School CTE Culinary Arts classes under the direction of Mrs. Janette Garza, learned how to make dinner rolls from scratch. Students learned how to follow a recipe, learn how yeast makes dough rise, and how important yeast is in certain recipes. They also learned how yeast is a critical and important ingredient when making dinner rolls or any bread. They also learned how yeast also adds many of the distinctive flavors and aromas we associate with bread. The students dinner rolls came out scrumptious. Thank You students for doing a wonderful job.

Our RGCHS Criminal Justice Club participated in the annual National Night Out event in Rio Grande City, which provided a valuable experience for our students. Not only did they have the chance to serve the community, but they also explored existing career opportunities within the criminal justice system. This event allowed our students to expand their understanding of potential future careers while making a positive impact through community involvement.

Villarreal would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the U.S. Border Patrol for visiting the Career and Technical Education Criminal Justice classes. Their introduction of the new anti-bullying movement and the various job opportunities within Border Patrol was highly appreciated. This initiative aimed to engage and inform students ranging from 9th to 12th grade about important career paths and the significance of combating bullying. RGCHS Texas Works Path to Success Program get a visit from HHSC HR personnel today. HR came to help students fill out their application and paperwork for their job placement at the local HHSC office.

South Texas College EXPO

On April 19, 2024, the CTE Criminal Justice senior classes along with their instructors, attended the Annual South Texas College EXPO, where they got to learn, experience, and open up future opportunities. They definitely enjoyed the experience and with an enormous amount of gratitude we want to say thank you to every agency and South Texas College for hosting such an amazing event.

"Cook Around the World" Competition in Orlando Florida

Congratulations to Mrs. Janette Garza's RGCHS CTE Culinary Arts Students in winning the Judges choice award in Orlando, Florida in "Cook Around the World" competition. They won the judges award in the appetizer category. They were judged & selected by the owner of Culinary Arts School Auguste ESCOFFIER.

2024 Dual Precision Manufacturing Technology Graduating Class

These students will be graduating from STC on May 3, 2024 at Bert Ogden Arena at 12:30 pm.

Our amazing Rattler students earned multiple certifications from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills. Our students earned certifications in Measurements, Materials, and Safety, Metal-forming, Job Planning, Benchwork and Layout, Drill Press Level 1, and CNC Mill.

We are so proud of these students for their hard work and determination in completing all 4 years in a Career Pathway!

RGCHS CTE South Texas College Dual Enrolled Student Spotlight Honoree

The RGCHS Career & Technical Education Department, alongside RGCHS Library Services, is delighted to introduce Mr. Edgar Solis as one of our South Texas College Dual Enrolled Student Spotlight honoree. Edgar will graduate with his Computer & Internet Specialist Certification in May. He is top-ranking student enrolled in AP courses and is a member of the National Honor Society.

RGCHS TWPS students visit the local HHSC Office to choose their cubicles and meet their supervisors. These students will be getting ready to start the workforce with HHSC as Assistance Eligibility Specialists in June!

Congratulations to Jesus Villarreal for his outstanding achievement in Skills USA Cosmetology Esthetics and his Cosmetology Teacher, Joelda Arredondo! he clinched 1st place in the valley, secured another 1st place at the state level in Corpus Christi, and is now headed to Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia on June 24th! The RGCGISD Career & Technical Department in collaboration with RGCHS Library Services, proudly presents Miss Sarah Morin as our very first South Texas College Dual Enrolled Student Spotlight recipient!

Sarah's inspiration to enroll in dual-enrollment classes began her sophomore year when she decided to take advantage of the opportunities presented to her. She said, "Dual-enrollment classes offered a good way to learn useful skills that will prove valuable for my future. These classes have given me the skills necessary to succeed in the real world. so far I have acquired a proficiency in AutoCAD and Fusion 360, two design programs hat will allow me to have a solid head start in the Aerospace Engineering industry."

Congratulations to the Army JROTC Rattler Battalion for participating in their first ever Regional Archery Competition at Edcouch on February 17th. The Battalion competed against 10 other area schools to qualify for the State tournament held in Belton, TX in March.

On November 21 & 22, two teams of CTE students from Grulla High School and Rio Grande City High School attended the Brick Masonry class at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen Texas. They were instructed by Ms. Ashton White professor. The students from the CTE department completed their brick layering with great success. The instructors are Mr. Jorge Chapa, Mr. Edelmiro Olivarez and Mr. Pedro Martinez. The students ROCKED!

1st ever Battle of the Barbers deemed a success!

Kudos to all barbering students at RGCGISD for preparing a small expo competition among their fellow students from both high schools. Over 200 students came out during their lunch time to view the expo. Congratulations to all winners who were awarded a trophy and a barbering razor. Special thanks to everyone that assisted Mr. Rey Guerrero & Mr. Rosvey Garza in this endeavor.

Rio Grande City High School CTE Seniors in the Focus 2 Grant were given a training by Ms. Darisel Villarreal on working force ethics and best practices.

They will be joining the workforce as seniors while piloting the work internship program. Special thanks to all the CTE teachers that nominated them, their principal Mrs. Maribel Montemayor & Miss Leslie Saenz for approaching and coordinating the places of employment and connecting with the employers. Most of all thank you to the RGC Community for believing in these students' potential!

RGCHS CTE TWPS Program Student Parent Night

Rio Grande City High School CTE's new program named Texas Works Paths to Success had it's first Parent Student night. TWPS trainers and coordinators met parents and informed them more about the program. TWPS program gives the students an opportunity to graduate from high school and get trained their senior year to become a Texas Works Advisor. Students are offered a job with HHSC after they graduate high school and successfully complete the program. Thank you Mrs. Adelina Villarreal, CTE Director for bringing this program to Rio Grande City High School.

On Friday, December 2, 2022, Mrs. Gloria Gonzalez, Grulla High School Cosmetology Teacher and several of her students, visited the Alternative Center to talk to the students about the wonderful career opportunities in that field. They also offered some cosmetology services for the students and staff. Mr. Jose Hinojosa, acting principal of DAEP, and Mr. Orlando Guerra, Counselor, would like to thank Mrs. Gonzalez for taking the time to speak to the students. Also. a very special thanks to Mrs. Adelina Villarreal, Career and Technical Education Director, for making this possible.

Rio Grande City High School CTE instructor, Mrs. Ivy Lim is thrilled to announce that all of her 23 students have officially completed the requirements to join the workforce and post-secondary education, be it their choice. This program has been in existence at RGCGISD for over 15 years and has expanded with over 6 classes and certifications and is held at the 3 high schools. Congratulations to all!
