President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition

The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition (PCSFN) is a federal advisory committee that aims to promote healthy eating and physical activity for all Americans, regardless of background or ability.

  • President Biden issues Executive Order 14048, renewing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition until September 30, 2023.  This Executive Order allows for continued promotion of the National Youth Sports Strategy, and provides for the work of the Council to include a focus on expanding national awareness of the importance of mental health as it pertains to physical fitness and nutrition.

Presidential Youth Fitness Program

The Presidential Youth Fitness Program (PYFP), managed by the National Fitness Foundation, is the national model for fitness education and assessment in schools. The program was established in 2012 in order to promote health-related fitness and provide physical education programs with quality resources and tools to empower youth to be fit for life. The program provides schools with access to best practices, including

  • Training for physical educators

  • The national youth fitness assessment standards

  • Student & school recognition items

  • Grants for equipment, professional development, recognition & more

The National Fitness Foundation administers the program's key initiatives, including grant opportunities and teacher training's, in order to prepare children for a lifetime of health and fitness. The Foundation collaborates with the program's founding partners, including the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, Amateur Athletic Union, Interactive Health Technologies, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and SHAPE America to support and advance fitness education and assessment practices.

Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (TAHPERD)

The Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (TAHPERD) is a not-for-profit professional association of individuals in the allied fields of health education, physical education, recreation, and dance. This Texas-based association is composed of over 3,100 professional and student members serving education from early childhood through college. While most of our members are employed in public or private education, individuals representing interests in government and private agencies, business, and health care provision are increasing their voice in our membership. TAHPERD was founded in 1923 and is the only association in Texas serving education in all four of our disciplines—health, physical education, recreation, and dance.
